Recipe: The Best Brownies

Brownies are one of my favorite foods. I can’t say they are the most healthy snack but I take them whenever I need to bring food because they are fool-proof. There are different recipes for healthy options but personally I prefer the unhealthy option. They can be served as a dessert with ice cream or as a snack by themselves. To get them amazing though you need an amazing recipe and I found one. It makes fudgey, gooey and yummy brownies. The recipe can be altered to make them more interesting. For example you can add choc-chips, walnuts or berries. This is not my recipe I found it on best recipes and have never used another recipe since. In my family it goes quickly so I always double it. If you want to see the original recipe here is the link http://www.bestrecipes.com.au/recipe/best-ever-brownies-L1156.html?ref=recipe_collection_view%2Cbrownie-recipes

STEP 3: Mix through flour and cocoa.

STEP 4: Add any choc-chips, nuts or berries.

STEP 5: Bake at 160C for 25-35 minutes.

STEP 6: Serve warm with ice-cram or caramel sauce or ice them and save for later!

The recipe above has many calories in it so it is just mocking someone trying to lose weight. There are different ways to make a healthier brownie. Here is the one I altered, it is still probably quite high in calories but is a better option. I based it off the recipe above but also my own ideas to make it healthier and this is what I came up with.

Ingredients

  • 75g butter
  • 1/2 cup applesauce (1 or 2 apples)
  • 1/3 packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup wholemeal flour
  • 1/2 cup dedicated coconut
  • 1/2 or 3/4 cup good quality, unsweetened cocoa powder – the more cocoa powder the less healthy it tastes.
  • 2 egg whites beaten to soft peaks
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup of dates finely chopped

Method

STEP 1: Cream the butter, sugar and applesauce.

STEP 3: Fold in the egg whites until well combined.

STEP 2: Mix in the rest of the ingredients until smooth.

STEP 3: Pour into a greased cake tin and place in the oven on 160°C for 30-40 minutes.

I personally think these brownies still taste good even though they are healthier and not as fudgey. I accidentally put too much cocoa powder in my batch and it made them really dark which is how I like it. I hope you have fun making these recipes and enjoy them as much as I did.
